THE MANOR HOUSE

Keresbino Hydra Manor House,a traditional guesthouse first built in 1780, amidst the years of the Venetian Occupation era. Impressive in its simplicity, with curved cornerstones and crafted hewn stones from Hydra or the adjacent small island in the Hydra Gulf, Dokos, plain stones, marble stones or unpolished marble, all carefully balanced, fixed without mud, with edges painted white.
Spacious and imposing, one cannot help but noticing the place’s robust wooden beams known as “boudelia” a term used by the local seamen for the wooden poles that support boats when parked aground. The dominating elements are those of the local marble stone and wood, well-balanced and bound within the towering walls.
- The hydraic stone was scraped and allowed to breath, without unnecessary varnish. The walls were carefully bolstered with chestnut wood additions, bound anew to offer proper support while graciously maintaining the unique air of the local architecture. Wood was gritted, lamps and other objects were polished, suitable lighting was installed and sofas and beds were built. New single sleeping room and spaces were created, including bathroom, WC, kitchen. The house was indeed brought to new life, took its new form and is now ready to offer a warm welcome to its guests.
